ACT 1 SCENE 5

Come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,
And fill me to the toe-top full of direst cruelty! make thick my blood;
Stop the access and passage to remorse,
That no compunctious visitings of nature
Shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between
The effect and it! Come to my woman’s breasts,
And take my milk for gall, you murdering ministers
Wherever in your sightless substances
You wait on nature’s mischief! come, thick night
And pall thee in the the dunnest smoke of hell,
That my keen knife see not the wound it makes,
Nor heaven peep through the blanket of dark,
To cry ‘Hold hold!’

Personification:
Wherever in your sightless substances

S – Through the use of personification and strong words Shakespeare has been able to communicate Lady Macbeth’s cruel intentions to kill King Duncan
E – “Wherever in your sightless substances”
X – WHAT DOES IT MEAN??
This line of Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy also creates a secondary thought for the reader to experience. The word “sightless” is a form of emotive language that connotes to King Duncan’s oblivious perspective of the Macbeth castle in inverness.
